I'm back ... very much earlier ... well, the trip to Indonesia is reschedule again cos I'm the only one going ... at least 3 person is required. Will let you all know when my trip is confirmed.

Nevertheless, my cousin sister Angie Gan from London called me and introduce another form of therapy ie.

2) Go on a special diet for 10 days - no oil, no salt and no meat

Well, the above is from a direct selling company (Newlife) but after going thru some of their info and website ... not too bad ... This will be my plan B or in other words when I'm completely cured I will go for this therapy to make my body much more healthier ... oops ... sound like selling ... sorry ... don't get me wrong ... it is your CHOICE ... remember.

Today is the completion of my 2 months on Chinese medicine. Nowadays, I noticed that whenever I sneeze off thru my nose and throw my phlegm from my mouth ... not much of blood.

I'm back. There's a change of plan for my trip to Indonesia - reschedule to another date - will let u all know before I go.

Well, it's almost 2 weeks since my last email n I'm feeling much stronger each day. Visit my Chinese physician on 7/5/05. Mr Ng and Ms Jillian told me that my health had improved by 50%. On the same time I took my 3rd month medicine costing RM1,041 (USD 274) - there's some changes on the medicine flow - no change - everyday also need to consume - for your info, I never miss and are very punctual on taking my medicine because I'm damn boring staying at home and I want to recover fast and get my ass back to work ... whew !!!

Sorry for my frustration, well, feel much better now.

On the 9/5/05, I sneeze off a lot of blood from my nose and I feel much better after that. The feeling was the same like I had when I was treated by Ibu in Indonesia. Occasionally I still had blood attached to my phlegm or when I sneeze.

As for the SOCSO, I called Mr Pacoima Singh (introduce by Ms Boon -SL) - an officer in SOCSO, he ask me to submit all the forms for them to process. At the moment, I'm waiting for the document from Sunway Medical to fill the form that I passed to them on 10/5/05 (normally around 2 or 3 weeks). Ask me to submit 3 forms (Pemberitahu Keilatan (Notice of Invalidity), Akaun Bagi Pencen Ilat (A copy of the saving account book of a designated bank (only of the Invalid Pensioner)), Laporan Perubatan Untuk Memohon Pencen Ilat (Medical Report of the applicant)) to their Petaling Jaya office at Wisma Panglobal, Jalan Tandang. To make 2 sets, 1 to pass to them, another set for them to acknowledge receipt of the document.

That's all at the moment.

I'm back and I'm feeling much better as compare to last month. After the treatment from Ibu (Indonesia) and Chinese physician Mr Ng & Ms Jillian, I personally felt that I'm recuperating fast and I'll take another CT Scan (either in Sunway or other Hospital) after my 2nd treatment from Ibu to reconfirm my nose tumor size. Hopefully may god bless me that it's reduced or completely vanish and I do not have to go for plan B.

A prospect from JB name Mr Chia, called me last week and suggest a product call OMX (website : http://www.ohhira-nutrition.com/) which had help cure his uncle cancer. From what Mr Chia said, it will help to cleanse the cancer cell and Mr Chia has no intention of just selling the product but it's proven that it help. The only disadvantage is that this product is very costly. He, himself is taking it as a supplementary product.

My vision is 100% back to normal and the best part is it had reduced both my vision by 100 ie. right eye from 750 to 650 n left eye from 700 to 600.

Occasionally I still have blood phlegm from my throat.

I'm going to SOCSO office next week to check whether I'm liable for any claim.

I'm back with more interesting experiences to share with you all. Before that I would like to say thank you to everyone for your support (so sorry that I did not include everybody email, kindly forwards it to them if I missed anyone) and especially Mr Soon of SL Information to making my trip to Indonesia a reality and eye-opening.

17/04/2005 - 10.45am left for KLIA airport, was accompanied by Mr B K Sim (thank you) to the airport and met with Mr Chuah and Mr Eric Ng (both whom’re Mr Soon good friends). As the flight is 1.35pm MAS flight (cost RM610 – USD 160), we went to McDonald's for lunch - not much choice for me except for McPorridge.

3.35pm - reach Jakarta, met up with 2 more new friends ie. Mr Henry Foo and Ms Dorothy Foo (from Singapore) - all five of us adjourn to Red Top Hotel (Jl. Pecenongan No. 72, Jakarta 10120 - http://ca.f519.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=reservation@redtophotel.com) - which is nearest to the train station. Taxi fare to hotel cost RP 180,000 (USD 19)

5.45pm - Mr Reno (the person who arrange our trip in Indonesia) drop by at Hotel and brief us about tomorrow plan ie. 6.30am to leave from Hotel to train station (about 15 minutes). Hotel cost per night plus additional bed at RM320 (USD 85)

7.30pm - All five of us adjourn to a nearby Chinese restaurant called Super Kitchen and had some nice food - it was on Mr Chuah treat (thank you).
Sleep at around 9.30pm. Oh ya, I did not missed my Chinese medicine (on schedule so far).

18/04/05 - Woke up at 5.30pm (alamak - forgot to change the time to 1 hour behind) - got all the time to prepare my herbs and had a good breakfast.
Left Hotel around 6.30am (Jakarta time) - reached train station around 6.45am (charges for additional taxi to train station was paid by Edy (Reno father).)
Left Hotel to see "Ibu". Before we go in, we're to fill in a paper the symptoms of our illnesses. A bit greedy, below is what I written:-
1) Lihat ke-depan - bayangan dua (look in front, got double vision)
2) hidung kanser (nose cancer)
3) gusi berdarah (gum bleeding)
4) kolekstro tinggi (high cholesterol)
5) tangan kanan lemah (right hand no strength, very weak)
6) dua tahun yang lalu jatuh, kepala sebelah kanan bengkak, dirawat di rumah sakit 5 hari (2 year ago, fall down, there is a swollen balm behind my right side of my head, hospitalized for 5 days)
7) seluruh badan gatal dan flak merah (whole body itching and got rashes)
8) telinga kiri tak dapat dengar (left ear cannot hear)

Arrive at the place - its full house - wait for 15 minutes (they had a system where the entire patients name has been printed out. 1st to go in, Ibu read my symptoms as above & ask me to lie down the bed then Ibu use a cotton to wipe both side of me nose & I feel a bit of cold or chill & wet. Ibu show me what she had wipe out ie. black dark blood. Ibu also use 2 different cotton to wipe both my hand & told me I got "darah kotor" (dirty blood). Before I go out, Ibu wrote the below:-
1) HIDUNG - TUMOR ( KENCER) = NOSE – TUMOR (CANCER)
2) TANGAN MERAH 2 - (DARAH KOTOR) = HAND ITCHINESS & RASHES – (BLOOD IS TOXIC)
3) ALERGI UDARA = ALLERGIC TO AIR
Above treatment is less than 5 minutes.
1st treatment - donate RP350,000 (USD 37) to orphanage and RP100,000 (USD 11) for Ibu treatment. Got 8 bottles of 1.5 litres treatment water from Ibu cost RP30,000 (USD 4)
After the treatment, it's best to have a cup of hot tea.

After taking Chinese medicine - I had quite a bit of blood phlegm from my throat.

Edy told us about his own experience. He had a stroke sometime in January 2005 and was in coma for 5 days where Ibu gives him treatment everyday for about 1 month. Edy told us Ibu slap him on his tongue and with the constant treatment from Ibu, Edy was able to walk 90% on his own after 2 months. Before that his right hand and right leg was on the other side (if you know what I mean), the mouth was going sideway.

For the services provided by Edy, it cost us RP1,500,000 (USD 158) each person (which comprise of 4 days, 3 nights stay plus breakfast, accommodation to and fro to Ibu and to and fro to train station.

19/4/05 - early morning spit out quite a lot of blood phlegm. 10am went to see Ibu. Waited till 1.10pm. Ibu wipe my left and right nose and left face (same a lot of black dark blood). Ibu also wipe my forehead and show me that it's a sticky whitish stuff. Ibu then wipe both my arms.
RP100,000 (USD 11) for Ibu treatment

After lunch, went back to Hotel and had Chinese medicine, in a short while nose start to bleed and got a lot of blood phlegm from throat.

Night time - still got bleeding, Chuah and Henry shared on some Buddhist teaching ie. must have self confidence and use mind to control the bleeding.

Skip night time Chinese medicine.

20/4/05 - am - till got blood phlegm from throat but no more nose bleed.

11.15am - See Ibu and inform her of my nose bleeding. Today, Ibu hold & press the cotton on my nose for a bit longer then usual (about 10 seconds) and Ibu show me a handful of black dark blood. Ibu use another cotton and wipe below my right nose and I can see sticky whitish stuff. Ibu told me my arms are OK.
RP100,000 (USD 11) for Ibu treatment.

12 noon - adjourn to Hot Spring
Skip afternoon Chinese medicine.

Went for dinner - very good appetite. Still got blood phlegm from throat and continue Chinese medicine by convincing myself.

21/4/05 - am - still got blood phlegm from my throat - which make me recall that Chinese physician Jillian - told me that it's a good sign.
11am - Ibu wipe my nose and still got blood. Ask Ibu about my hearing, so Ibu check on both ear. Ask when to come back, Ibu reply 1 month later (15/5/05). RP100,000 (USD 11) for Ibu treatment.

Took a 1.45pm train back to Jakarta
6.40pm reach Jakarta, Reno picked us and we adjourn for dinner and back to Red Top Hotel.
9.30 am - start to feel uncomfortable on my stomach (like got air) so slept early.

22/4/05 - need to go to toilet to release at least 7 to 8 times and each time is like water coming out only (detoxifying).

23/4/05 - not so frequent and is able to control.

24/4/05 - went to see Chinese physician Mr Ng and Ms Jillian. Confirm that it is a good sign and is not food poisoning.

Overall, after the treatment from Ibu, I can see that my vision had improved and I had faith that I will be completely cancer free after my 2nd treatment. I intend to do my CT Scan after my next treatment from Ibu and my completion of my 2nd month on Chinese medicine.

I'm back and will continue what I had experience in the last few days. Before I continue, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to SL Information especially Mr Soon (for asking BK to coordinate for my medical treatment to Indonesia) – Mr B K Sim, kindly forward the mail to Mr Soon, thank you very much. For all your info, I'll be leaving for Indonesia this coming Sunday flight 1.30pm and I had activated my mobile to be on roaming services, so I can be reachable.

8/4/05 - Visit Chinese physician Mr Ng and Ms Jillian, and was informed that there is improvement and I should be recovering very soon. Tell them I had rashes all over my body, blood phlegm and heartbeat sometime very fast. Conclusion is:- very good symptoms and was informed that it's currently detoxifying my body. Collect another month of Chinese herbs cost RM1,030 (USD 271)

10/4/05 - Vision at night time - extremely bright (will check on my eye power end of the month).

11/4/05 - By word of mouth, a friend call up requesting for the physician contact number. Ask her why, was told that her mother in law is having lung cancer and Dr say it only have until end of this month. I told her that it's all about the individual and ask her to ask her mother in law, what's her choice? If she choose to live on then the percentage will be higher.

12/4/05 - Occasionally seem to have double vision for 5 to 10 seconds. Check with Jillian and was told that it's common as it had not fully cleared the cancer cell.

Let me continue my boring story.

Thanks Kian Soon (my Singapore good friend) for assisting to spread the Chinese physician name card.

19/3/05 - the Chinese physician is recommended by my younger sister mother in law. This physician had cured a patient with breast cancer (Dr say she got another 3 months to go and need to start chemo now), so luckily that this lady was introduce to this physician and she's in her 11th month now and still going strong and working as normal at the pasar malam (a night market where you could find your basic necessity).

I personally had the faith of this physician. The cost of the medicine for 30days is RM1,023 (approximately US$ 270).

20/3/05 - This is my 1st day to start consuming the Chinese medicine. It's like the start of a course as below:-
Breakfast - tea break - after lunch - tea break - after dinner = daily
herbal medicine to consume for the next 30 days which need to be boiled for 1 hour or 3 hours depending on the herbs.

21/3/05 - Went for 2nd opinion at Tung Shin - met with Dr M K Tan
Make a mistake as I just passed all my reports to Dr and Dr say I need to undergo the following treatment ie. 6 times chemotheraphy plus 35 times radiotherapy - running concurrently. Forget to ask him the critical questions.

A lots of my friends drop by to visit me and it really help to boost my confidence to the next level (oops sound like playing computer games).

After listening to all suggestions and advises, I make a decision to go for a 3rd opinion and ask my sister Jo Gan and Mr B K Sim of SL Information System to introduce any good Dr in S'pore.

28/3/05 - Confirm appointment with Dr Khoo Kei Siong - Consultant Medical Oncologist & Physician - Gleneagles Medical Centre, 6 Napier Road, #01-03, Singapore 258499. Tel: +65 64722662

29/3/05 - Meet Dr Khoo and request Dr to do another test and told Dr that I'm seeking a 2nd opinion. Dr Knoo advice to take blood test (same day) and perform a PET Scan the following day (30/3/05).

30/3/05 - PET Scan taken - all in took approximately 5 hours (from 11am till 3pm) - must break fast for 6 hours before the test.

31/3/05 - Collect the PET Scan report and met with Dr Khoo at 2.30pm. Dr confirmed that I'm diagnose with Nasopharyngeal cancer (nose cancer) and it's at Stage 4A, and all other organs is not affected. The following question was asked:-
1) How long do I have if I did not seek any treatment? Maybe 6 months or 1 year or more - it depends on the aggressiveness of the cancer cell, my antibody and myself.
2) How much will it cost me? Approximately S$25,000 (US$ 14,500) for 6 or 7 cycles of chemo and 35 times radiotherapy - all can be treated as outpatient excluding food and accommodation.
3) What the chances are of fully recovered from cancer? about 30% to 40%
4) What are the chances of controlling it? about 80% to 90%
Total cost to get this 2nd opinion is approximately RM9,500 (US$ 2,500) inclusive of flights.

1/4/05 - April Fool Day - not really fooling u all but my vision is beginning to close the gap on my double vision - just imagine after consuming the Chinese med for about 13 days. Can even feel that there is movement around my head - feel like my nerve is pulling each other. Consult the Chinese physician, was informed that it is a good reaction.

2/4/05 – Mr B K Sim of SL Information System visit me and I told him that my plan is to continue with Chinese medicine and also plan to go to Indonesia for treatment as per his recommendation (maybe mid or late April). Mr B K Sim to arrange for the trip to Indonesia.

3/4/05 - Vision back to normal

4/4/05 - Able to drive my car around the neighborhood.

7/4/05 - Started to have rashes all over body - it is itchy and reddish. Check with Jillian and ask to apply the lotion (smell like rubber shit). Was informed that currently it's helping to detoxify my whole body system and it's a good sign.

Ok time's up for a short nap - another thing is after consuming the herbs I feel a bit tired and certain morning I will spit out some phlegm with blood - check with Jillian - was informed that it's a good sign.

I would like to update all my beloved friends about what, when, how I went thru my nose cancer treatment. Kindly assist to forward to the rest - thank you.

Well, the 1st thing that I would like to point out is MYSELF - "What is my CHOICE?" and “ta da” my choice is to LIVE ON and I shall remain positive at all times (this is the most important part of a person lives).

Way back in Oct 30 2003, the day that I blackout during a dinner session with my prospect. I just taken 3 pack of whisky with coke after dinner and went to the washroom and just like that relieving myself and ... blackout ... the next thing I know is that I'm in a Hospital. I was admitted for 5 days 4 nights (2 nights in Assunta Hospital and 2 nights in Sunway Medical Hospital) where I gone thru a series of test ie. MRI brain scan and CT Scan. Dr Ravi (Assunta Hospital) and Dr Ng Wai Keong (Sunway Medical) was unable to diagnose me what is the cause of my blackout. The most surprising thing is that I knock my head and had a swollen balm on my right side of my head and it affects my right arm and right leg (no strength).

I was down for almost a month ... resting at home and was back in action sometime early December 2003.

1st sign - in 2004, during CNY, I had my nose bleeding ... which I thought is "yik hei" (Cantonese verb) so drink more herbal teas “lor”.

2nd sign - mid 2004, my right ear got a block for about 2 to 3 weeks and I managed to dig out a piece of wax (the size of a 5 cents coins and my hearing was back to normal.

3rd sign - mid Dec 2004, my left ear got a block (which I thought it must be the same as previous) and I ignored it.

4th sign - in 2004 and 2005, during both Chinese New Year, I had nose bleeding ... “aiyah” why always happen during CNY period!!!

5th sign - 6th March 2005 - all of a sudden I had double vision, “aiyah” must be too tired wearing contact lenses. The next day is still the same so change to spectacle but still the same. Only went to seek a clinic doctor advise on 10/3/05 evening and refer me to specialist ie. Sunway Medical or Universiti Hospital.

11/3/05 - My brother fetch me to Sunway Medical to see Dr Ng Wai Keong. To determine what causes my double vision, a MRI Brain Scan is required, so I was admitted to perform the test.

12/3/05 - Report was out and was told that there is a tumor above my nose that is causing the vision and hearing problem. Dr Ng transfers my case to Dr Gan Tong Nee (Nose and Neck specialist). Dr Gan took a tissue specimen from under my nose for further testing and I was discharged.

17/3/05 - Test result was out and Dr Gan informed me that the specimen is cancer and I'm being diagnose with Nose Cancer and Dr Gan refer me to the following Dr ie:-
1) Dr Matin Mellor (Sunway Medical) Oncologist
2) Dr M K Tan (Tung Shin Hospital) Oncologist

18/3/05 - Seek Dr Matin Mellor consultation - was told to perform CT Scan on Abdomen, Neck and Body scan and see Dr in SJMC on 19/3

19/3/05 am - Dr Matin Mellor went thru the scan result and indicate that I'm currently at Stage 4A and could be in Stage 4B if the liver is confirm (as the scan cannot determine whether it's cancer or not - suggest PET Scan in Singapore - cost S$3,000 (USD 1737) - this will tell whether it's cancer or not). Solution provided is 3 cycle of chemotherapy (every 3 weeks), follow with another scan (to check whether the tumor had shrink or not), if yes then radiotherapy - 35 times.

19/3/05 4.30pm - Seek Chinese Physician K L Ng & Jillian Lim advise. Was told that I can be cured and my vision will be back to normal by 10 days or longest one month. To fully recovered, I will need 3 to 4 months of herbal treatments.

OK, a bit tired after such a long story, will continue in my next mail.

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for reading my chronicle. First of all, let me introduce myself, my name is Michael Gan Ing Leong, born in 17th December 1965, residing in G97, Block G, Sri Manja Court, Taman Sri Manja, 6.5 miles Off Old Klang Road, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia. I work in a company called SL Information System Sdn Bhd as a Senior Account Manager selling enterprise resource planning software solution called Pronto Software from Australia.

I was diagnose with Nasopharyngeal cancer Stage 4A on 17th March 2005.

I’m cancer free on 5th May 2007 after going through the numerous treatments as outline below.
1) Chinese physician Mr K L Ng and Ms Jilian Tan of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia (approx. 6 months from Mar05 till Sep05).
2) Spiritual healer, Ibu , Indonesia - 3 times (Apr05 till Jul05).
3) Chinese physician Mr Su of Haadyai, Thailand (approx. 11 months from Sep05 till Jul06).
4) Chinese physician Dr Wu, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (approx 3 week)
5) Seek "Abang" help to cure my cancer (approx. 11 months from Aug06 till Jun07).
6) Went thru 9 chemotheraphy and 36 times radiotheraphy (Aug06 till Mar07).

Below are the emails that I started to share with all my friends, updating everyone about the journey that I had gone thru.

Tunggu……..Wait……Not so fast. Now that I have your attention, let me tell you the primary reason for the creation of this blog……….
I am a cancer survivor and I feel compelled and duty bound to share my experience so as to give different perspectives to the cancer patient or the close friends or relatives. Ultimately, an insight and hopefully MOTIVATE, DRIVE and periodically TICKLE you on this journey to SURVIVE the FIGHT……..SIT TIGHT AND ENJOY THE RIDE…..

This is my story………
- From the ONSET, INSTILL A FIGHTING SPIRIT. It is really ok to seek 2nd or 3rd opinion and even run through the series of test. (The cost may make you pause, but think about it, what if the first report was wrong! You definitely do not want to undergo chemo or radiation to realize later, some dumbo got the files mixed up!)
- Results are out; the 2nd or 3rd tests confirm the C News…… Take a deep breath and FACE REALITY and ACCEPT the inevitable.
- NO MAN IS AN ISLAND……”GARNER SUPPORT”. Call, email( it’s easier than face to face and definitely cheaper lah) or SMS your family members and friends.
- FLOOD YOUR THOUGHTS POSITIVELY……… Since 23rd March 2006, I have been religiously writing ‘I AM VERY HAPPY THAT I AM NOW STRONG AND HEALTHY”…….
- Have Faith……….Believe in GOD, Speak/Pray to GOD Daily. Feels kind of Good, knowing when I am down, someone much more powerful is in charge.
- Have FAITH and the CONFIDENCE with the treatment you decide on.
- BE A FISH!!!! DRINK, DRINK and DRINK….no not samsu or brandy! EVEN IF I DON”T FEEL LIKE EATING, I took MILK…Enercal Plus, Ensure, Peptamen….H2O 3 LITRES!!!, 3 GLASS OF JUICE and then feel like the fuel tank of a Kancil!!!
- Join Hospis Malaysia, some may look sick, but NO ONE FEELS SICK…. A place of camaraderie, love and friendships, also to meet other Cancer survivors. Their website www.hospismalaysia.org
I WAS in an emotional turbulence, I WAS a Pain to be with…….I had a pity party, but REALISATION Stepped in I DECIDED I WAS GOING TO GIVE IT THE BEST FIGHT I KNEW HOW.

My turning point…….I received confidence from “Abang” Go to my blog to read about him. On 17th June 2007, silly as it may sound, I did a ritual act…….I KILLED THE CANCER!!! CHOPPED THE BANANA tree and “plop” into the river it went……
